Onanism is a term used to refer to the act of masturbation. It is derived from the biblical story of Onan, who withdrew prematurely during sexual intercourse in order to avoid impregnating his brother’s wife. Some religious authorities consider onanism a sin and have condemned it as a form of sexual immorality.
